“Peter Tamayo Jr., president of United Interactive
Technologies… was featured in a recent front-page article in
Inter@active Week concerning new Linux clustering technology from
Giganet, Inc. …expressed his enthusiasm over the idea of
combining the powerful and affordable Linux operating system with
the speed and versatility of cluster-based networking.” “Giganet is
the first vendor to release a major product in the Linux clustering
forum, having announced their product set and released their
software drivers into open source. The cLAN for Linux products,
which include host adapters and cluster switches, will be available
in third quarter 1999.”

“Giganet’s cLAN clustering product family makes use of
application-specific chips that allow high-speed, low-latency
datacommunication between clustered machines. cLAN clustering
providesInternet service providers and other businesses a method of
information transfer at such high speeds that overall system
overhead is reduced to negligible amounts, simultaneously
enablingIntel-based PC clusters to provide the functionality of
high-end mainframe clusters, such as those from Sun Microsystems
and IBM. The nominal pricing structure of an Open Source
operating system, such as Linux, combined with the
comparatively lower price tags of Intel-based clusters means that
industry leaders
, such as UIT, will be able to increase
performance while simultaneously cutting costs.

‘Giganet’s clustering technology will allow us the freedom to
provide mainframe clustering performance at Intel-based PC cost,’
notes Tamayo. ‘The performance of Linux combined with the speed
ofclustered communications will help keep United Interactive
Technologies, Inc., at the forefront of the business Internet
community.”
