“France’s Thomson Multimedia unit RCA will start selling WebTV
receivers this fall, but executives plan to delay until next year
the rollout of a TV with built-in WebTV capabilities.

The company had hoped to gain over leading Web TV receiver
makers Philips Electronics and Sony in the business of hooking
televisions to the Internet with its built-in product, the Wall
Street Journal
reported today.”

“It quoted RCA executives as saying they had decided
to wait until after Microsoft, owner of the WebTV technology,
finishes an overhaul of WebTV’s technical structure so that it can
be based on Microsoft’s Windows CE
operating system.”
