“…One of the first things I did after the installation was
complete was download the entire set of Red Hat 6.2 update RPMs.
Whoohoo! The average download speed was 230 kilobytes per second,
which translates into 1840 kilobits per second. That’s something
like 50 times faster than my 56K modem. I was getting a sustained
download rate of 267 kilobytes per second from a Red Hat
mirror.

“Anyone who’s got a dedicated Internet connection at work will
tell you that there are times when it doesn’t matter how big your
pipe is, sometimes the Internet is just sluggish.”

“The same is true with a home connection. My @Home service will
sometimes just bog down. However, it’d be unfair to blame AT&T.
The Internet is like that: a speedy infobahn one minute, the Ross
Island bridge at 5:30 p.m. on a rainy Friday the next.”
