“The first meeting of the Linux Advisory Council covered
education, technical fixes and was said to help Linux advance its
development. The Council is a forum that allows leading vendors, as
well as open source and commercial Linux advocates, to come
together to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing
Linux.

“The first meeting of the council took place on June 14 and 15,
1999. Members discussed a variety of issues, including: the
possibility of developing a centralized depository for Linux,
giving users one online site for bug fixes, patches, and; making
Linux training available on the Web; creating a centralized
training model for recognized Linux certification; the importance
of making Linux available in universities and in elementary and
high schools; and the importance of supporting local user
groups.”
