“The Apache Group announced yesterday that it is no longer just
an informal group of volunteers. It is now the Apache Software
Foundation, a nonprofit umbrella corporation that will help
shepherd the many open-source software projects contributing to
Apache’s evolution.”
“‘Our hope is that the new foundation will not change the way
that individual projects run,’ said Ben Hyde, a member of the
foundation’s board of directors and an engineer at Cambridge,
Mass.-based software firm Gensym Corp. ‘We are very sensitive to
the fact that there is a great deal of goodwill and trust in the
Apache community, and we’re not trying in any sense to create
anything different from what we’ve had historically.'”
