ConnectedUser: Syncronizing Linux iPAQ with Microsoft Outlook

“The following article will describe how it is possible to
syncronize an iPAQ running Linux with Microsoft Outlook. The tested
configuration consisted of a Windows2000 desktop connected through
a serial cable to an iPAQ H3850 running Familiar 0.6.1 Linux
distribution and Opie. It should also be possible to use a USB
connection.

“The main source of information for this article was
http://opie.handhelds.org/wiki/index.php/OpieSyncing. At this
source there are two applications listed which should provide
syncing functionality: Qtopia Desktop and IntelliSync. I could not
get Qtopia Desktop to connect with the iPAQ so I switched to
IntelliSync with greater sucess. IntelliSync can be downloaded from
http://more.sbc.co.jp/slj/download.asp even though it says it is an
update.

“It is assumed there exists a working PPP connection between the
desktop and iPAQ. Instructions for setting up this connection can
be found on Familiar’s website
(http://www.handhelds.org/z/wiki/WindowsTwoKPPP). It also assumes
Outlook is installed on the desktop. I used Outlook2002 which was
included with the iPAQ H3850…”
