“In an extraordinary feat of API legerdemain, Bynari,
Inc. the Dallas-based maker of Linux/UNIX groupware solutions
announced a breakthrough InsightConnector product. Once Connector
is installed, Outlook clients can perform a full range of groupware
operations through any server which employs the open standard
Internet Mail Application Protocol (IMAP) with ACLs (access control
lists).

Before Connector, such IMAP servers could only store Outlook
mail and newsgroup postings. Potentially, this means that an
enterprise can migrate its Exchange servers to a secure mainframe
or UNIX environment, while allowing Outlook users carry on business
as usual.

In short, for the vast majority of shops deploying Microsoft
desktops, Exchange servers are no longer the only game in town.
With InsightConnector installed on a Windows machine, Outlook can
talk to Bynari’s own Insight server, as well as to Caldera’s
Volution, CommuniGate Pro, Courier-IMAP, the open source Cyrus
IMAP, IMail Server, iPlanet, and the SuSE Linux eMail Server
III.”
