“Goodbye year 2000 concerns, hello Windows 2000, Linux and
E-commerce. The list of things to come goes on and on, promising
that 2000 should be a bang-up year for the IT industry, with huge
sales and service opportunities for channel players large and
small.”

“Windows 2000, for example, is the most eagerly anticipated
product launch since Windows 95 and should provide a much-needed
boost to business IT spending, especially among larger enterprise
accounts. Microsoft Corp. last month finally set the commercial
launch date for Feb. 17. Look for the largest impact on spending to
be in the second quarter of next year.”

“But this is not the only operating system making waves-2000
also should be a make-or-break year for Linux. Will the
open-source-code software rise to challenge the lock Windows has on
the market, or will it be relegated to niche-solution status?

Next year will tell the tale.”
