from a Web-server platform into a full-fledged solution for the
enterprise.”

” ‘The kernel is going to add improvements for enterprise
customers, including better SMP support,’ said David Sifry,
co-founder and chief technology officer at Linuxcare… ‘Big
[enterprise resource planning] systems don’t run on distributed
networks of computers, but on SMP systems running four, eight or
more processors. … But [Linux] 2.4 will bring us improvements on
processing for the low end of that high-end range,’ Sifry said.

“These developments, made possible by kernel improvements,
likely will help dispel the notion that Linux is not ready for
corporate prime time
, advocates hope.”
