“Young, who rarely removes his flashy red fedora, is the
marketeer, capitalizing on the open-source craze. But Ewing,
executive vice president and chief technology officer is “the
techie, the one all the Unix guys love,” says Howard Diamond, chief
executive of Corporate Software & Technology Inc., Norwood,
Mass.”

Ewing started the Red Hat project in the early 1990’s and
was looking for financial and marketing assistance. Young met Ewing
in 1994 and they merged a year later.

“[The two] definitely put Linux on the map with an awful lot of
help from the Linux community,” says Patrick Maderia, president of
Tri-Star International, a Phoenix integrator.”
