“Despite its strong channel presence, Microsoft Corp.’s quest to
decimate Unix and Linux will not be a breeze.”

“The company’s Windows 2000 server lineup, which is now expected
to trickle into the market during the fourth quarter and first
quarter of 2000, will be met with new competition both from Unix

vendors out to exploit the emergence of E-commerce applications and
Web hosting, sources said.”

“While Unix is a threat on the high end, Linux could be a
challenge at lower levels, VARs said. ‘There’s a very critical

orders than we can handle,’ said Steven Lee, vice president of
marketing for SW Technology, Richardson, Texas.”
