“A Linux kernel developer’s bid to enforce the terms of
the GPL on a Singapore-based manufacturer of tablets has come
unstuck – because production of the tablet in question has been
discontinued.

“Matthew Garrett took the unusual step of writing to the US
Customs in September, stating that fusionGarage, the maker of the
JooJoo tablet, was not conforming to the terms of the GPL as it was
withholding the source code from him.

“Garrett’s move was based on advice offered by former Linux
Journal editor Don Marti: “If you’re a copyright holder, and the
manufacturer exports to the USA, you can start an administrative
proceeding with the US Customs Service. It looks much easier and
less expensive than a court case”
