[ Thanks to Doug Bostrom for
this link. ]
Greetings. In the wake of HP CEO Carly Fiorina’s announcements
about embracing Linux, and since we are in the process of getting
some field sales staff up and running, I made an enquiry of HP as
to the status of Linux support for their OfficeJet products,
specifically the so-called “all-in-one” products. Here’s HP’s
response, including my original message. In the interest of
protecting the HP support person from a horrible flame blast,
perhaps it would be better to redact his name? [ Agreed – LT
ed. ] Not sure in any case what he means by “as an HP
employee” since the message also states that support is provided by
MCI.
Cheers,
Doug Bostrom

Dear Douglas Bostrom:
Thank you for your interest in Hewlett-Packard products.
In reply to your inquiry regarding the OfficeJet support of Linux, our
line of OfficeJets do not support Linux and I do not see it supporting
Linux in the near future.
Hewlett-Packard is always looking to improve and expand our product
line; however, as a Hewlett-Packard employee, I am unable to provide
information on products that may or may not be under development.
If you have any further questions, you can reach our Presales Department
at 1-800-752-0900 (6:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Saturday PST). This phone number will put you in direct contact with
Hewlett-Packard representatives ready to answer your questions and guide
you in the right direction.
Once again, thank you for your interest in Hewlett-Packard products. We
value your business and support. Our goal is to continue bringing you
quality products and solutions.
Sincerely,
... [ HP employee's name removed at Doug's suggestion - LT ed. ]

comments : My company needs to provision a number of people (~15 field
sales staff) with home office PCs and printers. Unless I'm mistaken it
seems that HP only supports Windows with OfficeJet products. Due to
reliability problems Windows is unsuitable for deployment away from our
IT staff, and so the OfficeJet products will not be useful to us unless
we can find Linux drivers for them. Please let me know where I can find
suitable drivers, or if you have any plans for future support of this
OS.
We'll happily pay extra for the drivers if need be.
