DowJones.com: Motorola, Others Launch Linux-Based Products In Light Of Red Hat IPO

“Telecom-equipment and semiconductor maker Motorola Inc. and
several other companies Monday made announcements of new
products and alliances supporting
the free Linux
operating system, which is experiencing a surge in notoriety
this week with the planned initial public offering of Red
Hat…”

“Motorola’s (MOT) Computer Group unit Monday said it plans to
provide telecom-equipment manufacturers with Linux-based platforms,
open-source software, service and support, training and integration
services.”

“…Silicon Graphics Inc.’s (SGI) Alias Wavefront unit Monday
said it plans to create Red Hat Linux V6 versions of its Maya Batch
Renderer and Maya Composer Renderer for Intel IA-23 processor-based
computers.”

“…3dfx Interactive Inc. (TDFX) said it will incorporate direct
rendering infrastructure into its Linux software drivers, which are
expected to be available later this year. 3dfx makes graphics
accelerator chips, boards and software.”

“SCH Technologies, a software company, will also add Linux
support to Storage Technology Corp.’s (STK) CAM storage management
software.

Sybase Inc. (SYBS) is extending its support for the Linux
platform, ranging from the back-end database to Web architecture.
Sybase introduced the Adaptive Server Enterprise for Linux. The
software company’s Enterprise Application Server for Linux will be
available in September.

ObjectShare Inc. (OBJS), a software company, joined Linux
International’s board, and will promote the use of the Linux
operating system.”
