“Red Hat is one of the longest standing Linux
distributions in existence. Formed in 1994 by Bob Young and Mark
Ewing, Red Hat has grown from a basement business to a full
corporation. They have done more than any other distribution in
promoting Linux in North America and perhaps even the rest of the
world. They are also one of the first to take Linux to the
corporate world and achieve success in that dog-eat-dog arena.Red Hat’s code base has been copied more than any other
distribution. Companies such as Mandrake, SOT Best Linux,
Connectiva, Abit and Kondara have all used Red Hat as the basis for
their own distributions. While this is flattering for Red Hat it
also shows us that Red Hat is the one company we should watch.Red Hat is known for innovation which is why you will see them
in the embedded space, developer technologies, training, management
services, and technical support services. All of this wouldn’t be
possible if it weren’t for the development of one of the more
widely used and respected Linux distributions.Which brings us to version 7.1. This is a much anticipated
release as it brings us further into the newer Linux technologies
and provides some bug fixes for version 7.0. To date this is their
best release yet.”
