“SuSE is always in an interesting distribution to
review. It is perhaps the largest distribution weighing in with 7
CDs and 1 DVD, and every byte on those CD’s filled with software
for you to try and use. There is almost too much software to look
at and yet with so much choice it is hard to feel bored with SuSE.In the world of commercial Linux distributions, SuSE is a leader
and is certainly the preference of many European users. They have
also maintained many ties with the open source world and have
contributed greatly to projects such as KDE, XFree86 and ReiserFS.
They have been and will likely always be a culture of engineers.
This is part of what makes SuSE fun to work with. If anything, SuSE
Linux is very much a product of solid engineering. With a release schedule that most companies would balk at, SuSE
again presents us with a distribution that is more up-to-date than
most. Version 7.2 released almost four months after the release of
version 7.1 brings a great many updates and a lot of bug fixes.
Which leads us to the question: Is it worth upgrading from 7.1 to
7.2? The short answer is if you are satisfied with version 7.1 then
no, however if you are running 7.0 and earlier this release is a
must.
