“SGI, a Silicon Graphics company, announced the launch of a new
series of Intel-based servers this week, including the company’s
strategic alliance with Red Hat, Inc. and Linux.”

“Working with Intel Pentium III Xeon-processors, SGI’s new 1400L
servers feature a factory installed Red Hat Linux operating system
(OS) and are being marketed towards e-commerce operations, among
others. Integrated managed services, 24×7 phone support, tools and
utilities for high-end use and customer training come bundled with
the product.”

“‘SGI has a long history of contributing innovation and
technology to the open-source community,’ commented Bob Young,
co-founder and CEO of Red Hat. ‘Together, SGI and Red Hat will be
able to expand Linux into enterprise markets.'”
