Linux operating system creator Linus Torvalds offered
further details of his chip startup, Transmeta, during a Comdex
keynote here in Las Vegas, some of which were disclosed on the
company’s web site in a hidden message.

“Transmeta, a Silicon Valley startup, will fully disclose its
plans on Jan. 19, Torvalds said today. The company’s first chip,
code-named Crusoe, will be a “smart CPU-the first microprocessor
built with software.”

“On Transmeta’s web site, the company hid a message inside the
HTML source code, revealing its intentions to address the mobile
market first and foremost. Transmeta also appeared to confirm a
consensus opinion held by the analyst community that the chip will
be some sort of processor capable of working with multiple
instruction sets.”
