Electronics Weekly: Access to Internet services without a PC from Intel

“Intel unveiled its plans to offer low cost Internet appliance
products that will be sold through telecom and Internet service
provider companies and allow users to access Internet services and
content without using a PC.”

“Calling the devices Web Appliances, Intel is targeting
consumers, with support for Internet telephony, web browsing and
e-commerce services. The devices will use a version of the open
source code operating system Linux, rather than Microsoft’s Windows
CE operating system. The use of Linux will help keep the price
of the devices low since it will not require payment of licensing
fees.
