Discontinued SuSE Linux Distributions
Dear suse-security-announce subscribers and SUSE LINUX
users,
having provided security-relevant fixes for version 7.2 of our
home user product, SuSE Linux, for two years, we would like to
inform you that as of today, security fixes for SuSE Linux 7.2 will
be discontinued for all architectures. Vulnerabilities found after
Oct 1st 2003 will not be fixed any more for SuSE Linux 7.2.
By consequence, the SuSE Linux 7.2 distribution directories on
our ftp server ftp ftp.suse.com
have been moved to the /pub/suse/discontinued/ directory tree
structure; the 7.2 directories in the update trees will follow
later in October.
The discontinuation of SuSE Linux 7.2 enables us to focus on the
SUSE LINUX distributions of a newer release date to ensure that our
customers can continuously take advantage of the quality that they
are used to with SUSE LINUX products.
This announcement holds true for SuSE Linux 7.2 only. As usual,
SUSE will continue to provide update packages for the following
home users distributions:
SuSE Linux 7.3
SuSE Linux 8.0
SuSE Linux 8.1
SuSE Linux 8.2
and
SUSE LINUX 9.0
for a two-year period after the release of the respective
distribution.
Please note that the maintenance cycles of SUSE LINUX Enterprise
Server products and products based on the SUSE LINUX Enterprise
Server operating system are not affected by this announcement. To

Mandrake Linux 8.2 is No Longer Supported
As some of you may have realized already, Mandrake Linux 8.2 is
no longer being supported. The date for Mandrake Linux 8.2’s End of
Life was September 30th, 2003.
This policy is clearly outlined at:
http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/productlifetime.php
With the forthcoming release of Mandrake Linux 9.2, it is
necessary to “revolve” support in this way to provide the best
possible service on currently supported and new distributions as
they are produced. MandrakeSoft currently maintains the following
distributions:
Mandrake Linux 9.0
Mandrake Linux 9.1
Mandrake Linux 9.2
Multi Network Firewall 8.2
Corporate Server 2.1
All distributions have a standard 18mos support cycle. Please
refer to the EOL policy document to see when currently supported
distributions will expire.
If you or your organization require a product that has a longer
support lifetime, consider purchasing Corporate Server, our
enterprise server offering that comes with 36 mos of updates
support.
Thank you.
