Enterprise Linux Today: French government tax authority to deploy Linux on 950 Linbox servers

“Political sentiment favoring open source software is
finally reflected in a large-scale, mission critical Linux
deployment by a major French government agency.”

“More than a year after members of the French parliament first
proposed that French government agencies be mandated to use open
source software, Linbox SA today announced that the French tax
authority, Direction Générale des Impôts (DGI),
is preparing to deploy 950 Linux-based application servers at sites
all over France. Linbox will provide the servers, which will run
Red Hat 6.2.”

According to the announcement, a decisive factor in the DGI’s
choice was said to be Linbox’s Factory, an automated
installation procedure developed by Linbox which provides fast and
easy large-scale deployment. … Linbox’s engineering approach is
based on a unique process for the industrialization of its
solutions: based on the required technical specifications, the
Linbox production center produces a bootable CD-ROM that will
install and configure a server with all the necessary applications.
Jean-Pierre Laisné, Chairman and CEO of Linbox, claims: “The
automatic procedures for installation and personalization (in the
form of shell scripts) developed by our teams give our range a
competitive advantage. We can reduce an organization’s total IT
operating costs by 60%.”
