“As for Linux, Microsoft hasn’t seen any significant adoption of
this OS at the enterprise level.”
“While our customers are looking at Linux as an alternative, we
have not seen any real shift to that platform from enterprise-level
managers,” O’Brien said. “Linux’s business model remains
questionable, and customers are not that keen to return to a
situation where you have a range of Baskin Robbins flavors of Linux
much as you had with Unix in the past.”
“Figures from Netcraft’s December computing survey showed that
Windows held a 49.9 percent share of the computers that hosted
public Web sites, Linux had edged up to 25.5 percent, while Solaris
held steady at 8.9 percent.”
“This picture changes when you consider the Fortune 1000,”
O’Brien said. “The Netcraft figures show that Windows continues to
lead here at 47.9 percent, with Solaris covering 32.1 percent and
Linux trailing at just 3.8 percent.”
