“Compaq’s Alpha products have been supported by the Linux
operating system and the Alpha Linux community since November of
1995, longer than any other non-Intel architecture. The Alpha Linux
port of Linux is a true 64-bit port, which allows huge amounts of
data to be manipulated. Compaq engineers have been cooperating with
the Linux community on the Alpha port since May of 1994, and Compaq
employees have participated in many Linux activities. One of
Compaq’s employees is currently the Executive Director of Linux
International, a vendor organization devoted to the promotion of
Linux. Compaq was the first system vendor to join Linux
International, and is a Sponsoring Corporate Member.”
