Forbes: VA Linux throws Red Hat the gauntlet

Red Hat Software might be the darling of certain
Linux-crazed investors, but they should be aware that the North
Carolina-based software publisher has some tough competition on its
hands.

“On Dec. 2, Linux-only computer hardware maker VA Linux Systems
will likely announce a partnership with Tustin, Calif.-based Loki
Entertainment for direct sales and distribution of Debian, an
alternative Linux OS that competes with Windows and the Red Hat
version of Linux.”

“Over the past few months the Linux community has been
expressing concern about the growing dominance of Red Hat’s version
of Linux, which is being installed on computers sold by companies
such as Dell Computer. This is the first time Sunnyvale,
Calif.-based VA Linux Systems, the other Linux heavyweight, has
challenged Red Hat’s dominance.”
