“…Lenaway: How does the L600’s performance
match up against the PlayStation2 or Xbox? What kind of numbers
will we be seeing on maximum polygon counts and texture loads?”

Gildred: The L600 will offer the best 3D
performance and feature set of any console when it is released in
Spring 2001. We cannot disclose benchmarks as of yet, but we can
say that it will be a multi-gigatexel engine with support for
T&L, FSAA, HDTV resolution and more.”

Lenaway: Why hasn’t Linux been used on a
console before? What makes this the best choice?”

Gildred: I don’t know why it has never been
done before. Perhaps no consumer Electronics firm has been willing
to give up enough ownership of the operating system to do it.”

Linux is no question the best choice for the IES as it
offers the most powerful and flexible open source kernel for
gaming, and when coupled with the IES platform multimedia
technologies you have a game engine with massive performance
capabilities.
