If anything is going to break Microsoft’s hold on the industry,
it can only be a combination of two things: dissatisfaction among
users of Microsoft products and a genuine alternative system… As
for an alternative, the only viable option is Linux.

Windows NT must be Microsoft’s weakest point at the moment. All
the delays and reports of problems in NT5’s development present a
huge opportunity for Linux. Users need to be confident in a system
in order to commit it to their servers, and confidence in Windows
NT5 is waning.
