The law firm of Kirberger and Associates has posted a brief
notice stating that the U.S. Department of
Labor’s computer systems have crashed nationwide, but does not
give specifics.
The OS NEWS
web site voices rumors that the DOL has recently converted to NT
and speculates that NT may be implicated in the crash.
Linux Today staff has found evidence of the Department’s move to
Windows at their web site. This
page, at the DOL’s website, details their plans to move to a
commercial “off-the-shelf” solution, running Windows (several
flavors), to reduce paper-flow in the department.
In the wake of the recently reported
Windows NT glitch that left a Navy ship dead in the water,
perhaps it is time for the government to take a fresh look at the
technologies it is betting our future on.
