Information Week: IBM To Offer Linux On ThinkPads

“IBM consummated today what it hopes will be a long and happy
marriage between its ThinkPad line of mobile computers and the
Linux operating system. IBM’s ThinkPad 600E becomes the first
mobile computer certified by Red Hat Software Inc. to run its Red
Hat Linux 6.0 operating system.”

By the end of the year, IBM plans to announce compatibility
with additional Linux distributors, including Caldera Systems,
TurboLinux, and SuSe, to run on a wider spectrum of ThinkPad
models
, according to Tim Eades, customer segment marketing
manager for the worldwide ThinkPad brand.”
