“A couple of companies have already delivered eight-way Xeon
systems, or expect to do so before the third quarter. VA Research
Inc., a vendor that designs hardware for the Linux operating
system, says it will ship servers with eight Intel processors by
mid-April. Intel recently invested in VA Research, and they’re
teaming to bring Linux to Intel’s 64-bit Merced.”

“VA Research can deliver its servers by April because of a
licensing deal it had previously made with Hitachi PC Corp. to use
eight-way technology that company had licensed from Corollary Inc.,
VA Research CEO Larry Augustin says. Intel acquired Corollary, a
supplier of Intel architecture multiprocessing technology, about 18
months ago in order to build its technology into its own eight-way
design.”
