InfoWorld: Apple to introduce Mac OS X this summer

“Apple’s new permanent CEO, Steve Jobs, on Wednesday unveiled
pieces of the Mac OS X operating system due to ship this
summer….”

According to Jobs, Mac OS X will be “open source.” However,
because “open source” is a term that not all members of the
computer industry use in the same way, it was unclear whether or

upgraded by an oversight committee, similar to the way the Linux
operating system is controlled.

“The OS will also get a new user interface — named Aqua —
which appears to enhance current interface capabilities and improve
what Jobs called the interface’s “fit and finish.”
