“Dell on Sunday began selling on its Web site workstations with
Linux pre-installed, and on Monday will offer factory-installed
Linux on servers…”

“Customers buying Precision 410 or 610 workstations can now
order them pre-configured with the Linux 5.2 operating system from
Red Hat Software, said Dell spokesman John Weisblatt. Customers
will pay a $20 installation fee for Linux, which they don’t have to
pay for Windows NT, he said. That fee includes 90 days of customer
support from a separate company called Linuxcare.

“On Monday, Dell customers will be able to buy PowerEdge 1300
and 2300 servers with Linux pre-installed, also through Dell’s Web
site. The installation fee will be $99, and the 90-day Linuxcare
support will cost an additional $75, Weisblatt said.”
