“The battle over the infrastructure of electronic commerce is
shaping up to be the next major turf war in the business and
technology world. And Hewlett-Packard is hoping to create its
beachhead using a new technology, code-named Fremont.

“In its efforts to combat Internet stalwart Sun Microsystems, HP
on May 18 will announce Fremont, a Java-based open-source set of
APIs that company officials say will facilitate the next wave of
business-to-business e-commerce.”
