InfoWorld: Linux Alley is crowded but lacks applications

“‘Linux Alley’ — a cluster of stands from companies that have
something to do with the open-source operating system — has been
the most popular street in town at the CeBit technology fair here,
which draws to a close Wednesday.”

“Visitors who want to see a demonstration of a new graphical
tools set put out by Linux distributor Red Hat Software , for
example, had to literally push and shove their way in, sometimes
maneuvering around attendees involved in intense discussions with
company representatives.”

“The crowds here give evidence to the exploding demand for, or
at least interest in, Linux. But looking at the handful of stands
at CeBit, it appears that demand far outstrips the supply of
Linux-based products, especially at the desk-top level.”
