“Silicon Graphics’ Chairman and CEO Rick Belluzzo on Tuesday
outlined a new strategic focus for the company, which includes an
internal restructuring plan and a renewed reliance on strategic
partnerships. The aim of the changes is to tighten up the company’s
focus and shore up its bottom line.”

“The net result, according to Belluzzo, will be a sharp focus on
what the company sees as three business areas with significant
growth potential. Those are high-performance systems based around
the company’s existing Origin product line, visual-computing
solutions with greater breadth and capabilities, and a new focus on
broadband Internet systems…”

“A key to the new focus is vigorous Linux support which,
according to Belluzzo, is the future and is the area in which SGI
will best be able to differentiate its offerings in the future.
Belluzzo did note, however, that a focus on Linux does not mean the
company will abandon Windows NT.”
