“Admittedly its not your conventional PC that Intel is doing –
in that it isn’t an enormous, ugly, impractical, box- it’s planning
to focus on the delivery of the so-called web appliance and it
sounds like a very good idea. The plan is for Intel to produce
a Linux based box – presumably so that it will benefit from lots
and lots of free publicity because of the Linux buzz – that will
feature a telephone and upgradeable PC….

“It would appear that Intel will be charging between $300 and
$700 for the device with a monthly ‘service charge’ – which is
presumably for the Internet access – of around $30. And the
Internet access sounds like it will be pretty good. According to
some reports the box will come DSL ready although support will
naturally be available for standard phone lines.”
