example, legal cases against large software companies and
developments in the area of storage management have crossed the
electronic wires in ever increasing numbers.“To a large degree these illustrate typical examples of the
effect of modern commerce and marketing. The one area of news that,
to a degree at least, derives from a subtly different background is
to be found in developments arising from the open source community.
Latest to make the news are new releases of the well-known SuSE and
MandrakeSoft Linux distributions.“Alongside Red Hat, German company SuSE is one of a small number
of Linux suppliers that have a relatively high profile outside of
the open source community. News is now reaching the streets
regarding the company’s new Linux 8.0 release; the follow up to
last years SuSE 7.3. It is reported that version 8.0 will include
the use of the KDE 3.0 interface designed to bring a Windows or Mac
OSX graphical interface to Linux. KDE 3.0 is itself still
undergoing rapid development…”
