ITtoolbox: What Is This ss Program Thingy?

“Those of you who peek and poke around your linux file system
may have come across a program called ‘ss.’ No it is not a secret
code to the gestapo nor is it the initials of my name. It is part
of the iproute2 package and it is a very useful program. It usually
resides in /sbin or /usr/sbin.

“The ‘ss’ program is an acronym for ‘sockstat’ or socket
statistics. Don’t we geeks love our acronyms :). This program was
written by Alexey Kuznetsov. But what does it do…?”
