“Did you catch the rather odd announcement from Microsoft about
a thin-client Windows XP version suitable for older PCs? According
to the MS blather, many enterprises have tons of slow computers not
upgraded past Windows 98 because the cost of upgrading the hardware
exceeds the value of moving to XP software.

“Real numbers are tough to come by, because company egos stop
them from admitting they run old software. I’ve heard stories that
more than a million enterprise PCs still run Windows 3.1, so I
don’t doubt that many corporate users have old hardware and
software…”
