Korea IT News: MIC Likely To Adopt Linux and Windows CE As Basic Platforms For Home Networks

“The government is mulling to adopt both Linux operating system
(OS) and Windows CE as the basic platforms for the pilot project of
building home networks. This is a one step backward in position of
the government which first planned to adopt only Linux OS-based
domestic technologies for the project.

“The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) said on
October 20 that it decided to initiate the pilot project via the
National Computerization Agency and to adopt Windows CE as a
platform if Microsoft opens its source so that compatibility with
other equipment and systems is guaranteed.

“As part of its strategies to foster domestic Linux-related
equipment, devices and software industry, the government had
selected Linux earlier as the basic OS for home network
projects…”
