“Her successor, though, may not bring any joy to Intel (NASDAQ:
INTC), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) and Sun: He’s
a member of Spain’s Socialist Party. Kroes is set to become the
digital agenda commissioner for the EU, with oversight of the
European Network and Information Security Agency (Enisa) and the
Information Society Directorate General, which supports IT
activities.

“In her new role, she will move from business regulation to
increasing access to online content and the digital economy.

“Her successor as competition commissioner is Joaquín
Almunia, whom the Wall Street Journal notes was a Spanish
government minister in the 1980s and 1990s while his Socialist
party was in power. He previously was involved in creating European
economic policy, including the October 2008 bailout of
Hungary.”
