Windows took off, or how Linux could push its way in to the desktop
market more effectively, one of the topics that always comes up is
deals with vendors.

“It’s not a secret that Dell and Microsoft (as well as Dell and
Intel) have a deal, offering them copies of Windows at a reduced
price–likely in exchange for the monopoly in their services. Dell,
because of its partnership with Microsoft, will not distribute
non-Windows desktops…”
