Linux and Main: SCuSE Me — Please!

“Beginning with Caldera OpenLinux 2.x and its Lizard installer,
installation and configuration of Linux got a great deal easier.
With last year’s creation of the UnitedLinux consortium, a lot of
Caldera’s geniuses went to SuSE, which is the company actually
producing the UnitedLinux distribution, sold by SuSE, SCO (which is
what Caldera turned into or was devoured by, depending on who’s
telling it), and others.

“SuSE has always been a more than decent distribution, but in my
view it has been dragged down by its installation tools, YaST and
YaST2. They don’t utterly suck, but they have suffered some pretty
gruesome shortcomings. Hey, though–all these SCO guys are at SuSE
now, so maybe the inspiration that gave us Lizard will rub off,
right? Make a distribution that’s, oh, SCuSE?
