“Dan York serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of
the Linux Professional Institute, a community project to develop
certification for Linux.
He is employed by Linuxcare to work
partly on LPI and partly on Linuxcare’s education programs.”

“… to answer your first question about when LPI was founded,
there were two separate initiatives that joined together. In the
spring of 1998, Evan Leibovitch and others at the Canadian Linux
Users Exchange (CLUE) had a conference where one of the discussions
was focused on what was needed for Linux to expand and grow in the
marketplace. A number of folks thought certification was necessary
and a mailing list was formed. During 1998, it expanded outside of
CLUE and wound up with about 50 people or so on the list, including
representatives from Caldera, SuSE and Debian.”
