talked about the fact that, for Linux to become more viable as an
enterprise desktop platform, it needed at least two things–good
management tools and another which I alluded to and will talk about
here. That 2nd thing is a good standardized API and rich toolset
for developing applications. I also mentioned previously that when
I worked in IT for a large financial services firm, we opted for
Windows NT 3.5 instead of Sun workstations on everyone’s desktop.
Part of the big reason for that was the far superior availability
