“The number of Linux magazines, books and websites is a
definitive evidence of the fact that the Linux movement is now
mainstream – and we all know that. But if you live outside the
gravity center of the movement, some of these publications may be
harder to get – where I live, there’s no such thing as a newsstand
carrying Linux Journal, Linux Magazine and Linux Format. Even local
technical magazines are sometimes hard to find.”

“That’s why I decided to publish some data collected on a
sample of all Linux magazines I could find as of December/2000, so
every Linux user could decide which one better fulfills his or her
needs.
My focus group is the Portuguese speaking Linux
community, but I figured that some of this can be helpful to people
on other countries too, so I translated parts of it. The individual
reviews of the five magazines are available only in Portuguese, and
you can use your favourite translation engine (like
babelfish.altavista.com) to translate them if you wish. I am not a
native English speaker, so forgive my eventual errors (or point
them out to me, if you are in the mood).”

“I won’t conclude anything for you – my job is to collect and
display the data. Use it wisely, and please report me anything you
feel as incorrect or needing some repair or better
explanation.”
