“Is there anything wrong with this scenario? A top Linux
distribution charges into battle against Microsoft … a red flag
of retribution snapping violently in the wind as the open-source
code warriors, armed with open-source browsers and messaging
services, storm the monied hills of Redmond … a cry of “world
domination” ringing sweetly in the ears of the patriots….”

“Depending on where you stand–as an e-business looking for
affordable e-commerce solutions, a dyed-in-the-wool source code
hacker, or an innocent PC user trying to decide between Windows and
the wild world of Linux, Red Hat’s aggressive moves to seize
Linux market share and beat back the tide of Windows (ab)use are
either the boon you have been hoping for, or simply another example
of money making the world (even the Linux world) go
’round.

“PC Week is reporting that Red Hat, fresh off the heels of its
announced acquisition of Cygnus Solutions and the formation of its
Red Hat Center for Open Source, is looking to invest and support
both the Mozilla browser project and Sendmail Inc. The moves are
reportedly part of Red Hat’s strategy to both revive major
open-source initiatives and kick the Microsoft Lion while it’s
down.”
