“You’ve got lots of information out there on that
server of yours. It’s information you need to get to, and that is
what this series will be about–getting to your information. After
all, it is yours. Still, how many of you have a separate Hotmail
account for those times when you are on the road and can’t get to
your e-mail?That’s just nuts, man!
It’s for these people that Squirrelmail was written. Billed as
“Webmail for Nuts”, this is an e-mail package you need to check
out. Squirrelmail is written in PHP with full IMAP support. It is
themeable, customizable, includes an address book, supports MIME
and more. Best of all, it is distributed free of charge under the
GPL. You can get Squirrelmail www.squirrelmail.org/.In order to use Squirrelmail, you will need your handy dandy
Apache web server, in addition to PHP4 available on your web
server. If you don’t already have PHP4, pay a little visit to
www.php.net for your copy. You also need to be running IMAP. The
IMAP server is part of the IMAP package (imagine), which happens to
be the same package as your POP3 server. So, if you are already
picking up mail with POP3, odds are pretty good the package is
already installed.”
