“From its incorporation in 1999 to the present, the number of
software projects led by The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has
multiplied more than tenfold. Launched from the Apache Group,
originally a number of developers working on what’s become the
Apache HTTP server, the Foundation now has literally dozens of
separate open source packages, many of them quite influential.
Hibernate, Struts, Ant, Perl, SpamAssassin, Cocoon, Xerces, and
Lenya, among many others, are shepherded by of the Foundation.

‘committers’ that can make changes to the Foundation’s master
source repository. Moreover, hundreds, if not thousands, of others
