Linux Mint 9 (KDE Edition): The Kubuntu Killer

“As time goes on, I am becoming more and more fond of
Linux Mint. The latest version of Mint (Isadora) was released back
in May, and when I reviewed it I fell in love with it. However, I’m
primarily a KDE user so I’ve been anxiously awaiting the KDE
edition, which is about to be released. Will it be worth the wait?
Absolutely.

“The one thing I love about the Mint development community more
than anything is that from what I’ve seen they only release things
when ready. Ubuntu (which Mint is built on top of) sometimes runs
into problems as they make each release available on the planned
day, no matter what. Linux Mint 9 was released later than planned
in order to solidify the release, and Linux Mint KDE was also a
long wait. Extra time in development is almost always a good
thing.

“To put it to the test, I decided to install it on my test
machine (a Dell Latitude D630 laptop) with 4GB of RAM, a 2ghz Core
2 Duo processor, an Nvidia discrete video card, and a WXGA+ screen.
It’s not the beefiest system in the world, but it’s more than
sufficient to handle a Linux distribution.”
