“Spreading the love
The Linux crowd is adamant about the spread of the operating
system. Noob support forums are set up and missionaries are sent to
third world countries to fight the evil lock-in and illegal
practices of the unmentionable one. I argue that this is not for
anything other than the love of their creation and the love of
their freedom. They gain from others using Linux and the
unmentionable one being wiped out for good. They present the
offering in a symbiotic manner, offering not “we want to share with
you” as a reason, but instead “this is better and it’s
cheaper/free, use this to your advantage”.”
